Portland Is Building Its First Covered Skatepark at Creston Park

There is something right about a city looking at a park people have already claimed and deciding to help it last. At Creston, Portland is replacing the community-built tennis-court skatespot with a covered, lighted facility that keeps the original energy in the conversation.
The build is moving through 2026, with Portland Parks & Recreation targeting a fall opening. The project pairs skate terrain with new paths and site improvements around the pool and lower park, so the route into the session matters as much as the concrete once riders get there.
The covered area is the part that makes this project feel distinctly Portland: not a monument to bad weather, but a practical answer to it. A public park that stays usable through more of the year gives local riders more than an opening day. It gives them a place to put in time.

The planned 15,000-square-foot park includes 10,000 square feet of covered, lighted space. The City’s stated goals are unusually clear: keep the DIY spirit, make room for gathering, build for different skill levels and give the place a roof.
