ACTION PARK ALLIANCE

Skatepark Consulting

Operational insight before groundbreaking.

Bring an operator’s perspective to your plans. APA helps cities think through the riding experience, future events and inclusive participation before the first concrete is poured.

Design for the first ride.
And the years after.

The obstacle mix and layout shape much more than opening day. They influence how beginners build confidence, how experienced riders progress, and how the park supports coaching, contests and everyday use.

We work alongside municipalities and their design and construction teams, bringing skateboarding culture and hands-on operations experience into early planning and design review.

PLANNING PRIORITIES FOR A PUBLIC SKATEPARK.

01 / PROGRESSION

A range of ways to ride

Review the balance of street features, transitions, bowls and approachable obstacles. Consider scale, variety and progression so first-time skaters and experienced riders have meaningful ways to use the park.

02 / EVENT READINESS

Ready for more than a session

Consider contest lines, judging views, staging, spectator areas and event-day circulation while the layout is still flexible. Plan for community jams and competitions without losing sight of everyday park use.

03 / INCLUSIVE PARTICIPATION

ADAPTIVE RIDERS AND SPECTATORS

Bring wheelchair users and adaptive riders into the conversation. Review access, circulation, viewing areas and riding opportunities with the project team, treating inclusive participation as an early planning priority.

Listen to the people
who will use it.

Inclusive planning starts with understanding different ways people move through a skatepark, as riders, spectators and family members.

APA’s involvement in World WCMX and adaptive skateboarding informs that perspective. We encourage early input from the local community and coordination with the project’s qualified design team.

BRING APA IN DURING EARLY PLANNING.

Share the brief

Start with your community goals, project stage, concept drawings and intended users.

Review the experience

Work through obstacle diversity, progression, operations, event needs and inclusive use with APA and your project team.

Plan for opening day

Connect the facility plan to staffing, programming, community engagement and the way the park will be managed.

FROM THE FIELD

Field notes for city teams.

Read APA’s perspective on the decisions that shape how public skateparks are planned, operated, and used.

What is your city planning?

Tell us where your project stands and what you want the park to make possible. A concept sketch, a planned renovation or an early-stage brief is a useful place to start.

Our role is to contribute skatepark-use and operational insight alongside your appointed design and construction professionals.
